anyways yesterday went 2 visit e wan
she gave birth to a healthy baby boy
but she's still undecided on the name

then went to PS with bryan,justin & song
ate and then went 2 stone at kino & borders & w8 4 my sis 2 finish sch
then we went shopping together @ marina sq
she bought a pair of shoes
i jus went cause i didnt want 2go home :D

spent 2day thus & fri @ home
catching up on movies and prep 4 my grandparent's anniversary dinner

anyhow i'm singing 2 really cool songs
Vem Kan Segla Forutan Vind
which is actually a sweedish folksong arranged by Mrs Wilson
it is really really nice, how mrs wilson focuses on creating space with the music
and the way she starts of the song... its... hauntingly beautiful... for a lack of a better term.
the second song is Salut De La Veille Des O
which is a REALLY cool piece which has 2 parts clashing almost all the time.
strangely, i can see the beauty in all the clashes
our guest choir is the piedmont choir all the way frm san fransisco USA
they are really gd... but guess what... their an SSA choir
so... it kinda feels weird for me 2 go talk to them...
i mean... i'm not used to being surrounded by estrogen...
anyways
i'm also singing 2 songs with the piedmont choir
a jazz piece called take the a train and a jap number called tsubasa
their really nice and catchy
and since there are only 4 acs pple and only 2 in my choir (im the only 1 in my section), i've become somewhat 'best friends' with the RI guy in my section... (:
oh well... come for the choral fest concert (my choir has abt 7 tix left). i'm sure u wont b disappointed!!!

Haven the musical: a blast from the past with great music.
The storyline, i think, brings out something in everyone, even the audiences...
The storyline is beautiful
The music is (most) wonderful... even inspirational
I've now (believe it or not) come to develop a certain bond to the musical
but i've been severly disappointed
I've been called down to waste my time at rehearsals
It is stressed that we (the chorus) is needed... BADLY!!!
but it is not show!!!
like today, we were supposed to be slotted into the dance for the song 'to be or not to be'
but guess what? we spent the rehearsal practicing the dance BACKSTAGE!!
we didnt even get slotted in!
i have one more thing 2 comment about at this time: the cast
probably 10-15% of the cast is actually committed to this musical; dedicated to the musical
and the rest? i feel that they arent taking anything seriously
comon they KNOW what commitment and dedication is! there is probably a representative from every other major sport or club/society in the musical. dont come and tell me that they do not know the meaning of dedication!!
the actual thing is 1 month away, and there is 0 stress here!! it really feels like no one is taking anything seriously!
i really feel that the lack of dedication from the cast is a major flaw which should have been sorted out from the start!
additionally, i keep hearing untrue, biased and totally uncalled for comments about the chorus!
i feel that the chorus is (in a way) doing the cast a BIG favor!
in most musicals, the cast should be self-sufficient! there is no need for a back-up chorus! and here we are, backing the cast up...
i mean, it is totally excusable that the cast cant sing, cause lets face it, the cast was probably chosen based on their acting skill and not their singing skills with the exception of a few...
We're even putting the choir's name at stake! if the musical turns out to be a flop, people would begin to generalize the choir as bad just because we were part of the musical!
but all i can say now is this:
i'm part of haven. i'm dedicated to haven. not just because the choir made a dedication to be part of this musical, but also because i believe in this musical, because i want to be proud of this musical. i have decided that i will tolerate all things that are out of human hands, uncontrolable things, but i will not make a promise to not complain. i have also decided to suffer silently the injustice doled out to the choir, and find any chance possible to prove everyone wrong: that the ACS(Independent) choir a good choir.
God will make a way, when there seems to be no way;
He works in ways we cannot see...
Maybe there is something for the choir at the end of this
maybe there is that light at the end of the tunnel
it may be the oncomming train
or we may just be to blinded to see the goodness in that light
all i can do is hope and pray and trust in the Lord
entrust everything into his hands

everything happens for a reason... nothing in this world is coincidential

p.s. all i have jus said is from a personal standpoint.

i just watched Disney Channel's High School Musical.
it was really good!
but watching that just brought up my desire to be in a musical...
it has always been my fairy tale dream to be in a situation which was potrayed in High School Musical... and for some reason i passed on the chance this year...
i still do not fully understand why...
At first i was seriously contemplating auditioning for the cast, and a few of my friends felt i had a good chance of making it in... but i passed on...
at first i was under the impression that it would be a successful and good musical, so i passed on the chance of going for an american university's summer programme... but now i feel kinda disappointed... i mean... the summer programme was totally cool!! i wanted to take the forensic sci course, psyc course and the singing course (it was supposed 2be an acapella course)!!!
sure i do have much more time and flexability... i can spend one whole day doing lab work... work that i enjoy... but part of me says i've made a HUGE mistake by not auditioning for haven...
however... through all the rehearsals we've had so far, i've seen the good parts and the bad parts of haven the musical.
ok... let's start with the most relevant section: the music.
the music is composed by our very own Mrs Elaine Wan. You would probably know her from last year's National Day Theme Song 'Reach Out For the Skies' and if you were abit more observent, from Dim Sum Dollies (yep... she did that music too).
I must say that the music she had composed for Haven the Musical is nice... especially Victor's Song and the Finale. However, somehow once the cast starts singing it, it kinda puts me off... except for johannas hadi (who has the lead role)... he sing's victor's song REALLY well...
well... i must say that other than peter, the rest of the haven boys make the song sound bad... and kenneth... yep... always gd...
i've always noticed that in good musicals, a chorus is not needed to make the cast sound good... the cast is usually self-sustaining... however it is not so in haven the musical. the director told the choir that he is expecting the good music from us...
anyways... moving on the the next aspect: the acting
actually, this was the part of the musical which i dread... and was also one of my personal reasons why i didnt go audition... i feel that my acting sucks big time... but through all the rehearsals, i've realised that singers can learn to be actors, but actors can rarely lean to sing properly...
Next: script
ok... the script is... ok i guess... but the story line is a little irratic... it jumps from mood to mood. in most good musicals, it focuses on one mood: romantic, sad etc. so yeah... this irratic mood swings make the musical seem rather... weird...
Lastly: attitude of the cast
to me, i somehow feel an air of pride within the cast, like they are so great, like they are better than the musical... i dunno... it's just a feeling...
anyways... i must say that what mrs wan told us is totally true. it is essentially our fault that the singing standard is so bad cause we didnt go for the auditions.
now, as i look back, i really wonder if i had made a big mistake not auditioning for this...
i wonder if i were to be accepted, would i be accepted based on my popularity with the teachers or based on the talent i posess...
i personally feel that half the cast was chosen cause they were yr5s, and the other 25% chosen due to their experience in OM (and therefore [i personally feel] their popularity with the teachers).
I feel that there are only a few people in the cast actually deserve to be where they are. Among them: Johannas Hadi (i really feel he deserves it), Kenneth (like duh... he is one of the best singers in the cast).
but now i'm really torn... seeing my dream being dangeled in front of me with half of me desperately wanting to pursue my life-long dream with my other (and somewhat rational) half holding me back...
my somewhat rational half is saying that there is no way an extremely good musical can be produced in 3 months...
so anyways... this is my plight...
i hope nxt yr or the yr after there would be another musical... then i'd have a chance to try again to fulfill my dream...
sigh...

Singapore Idol

Ok. Tonight was the first episode of Singapore Idol I’ve watched (other than the auditions) and i must say it was, for a lack of a better word, HORRIBLE!!
I really don't know how some of them managed to get so far. It's really amazing.
To me, this reflects Singaporean's poor taste in music, sub-standard expectations of singing, Singapore Idol is purely a popularity contest, or Singaporeans are just plain DEAF!
Ok, to give the judges some credit, some of the contestants whom i heard during the audition rounds where really good, and they did get thru to the next round. However, before I knew it, they were no where to be seen!
Now, of all the girls left, I feel Jasmine is the best, followed by Gayle. Jasmine had the most powerful voice of all the girls tonight. She chose a suitable song, and pulled it off really really well. However, people might say Gayle's performance was the total opposite... and I agree with that view. She chose the wrong song, a song that is really easy to screw up. I mean, how many Alicia Keys are there in the world? If I Ain't Got You was written by Alicia Keys for herself. Not many people manage to have the correct tone or range to pull off this song; and Gayle was not one of them. During the chorus, she slid her voice to hit the high note, and i felt that was the fatal mistake. Alicia Keys does not sing 100% pop. Her songs are an extremely unique mix of pop and R&B and a few other genres of music like blues (I think :D). By sliding her voice to hit the high note, it gives us the impression that she is not comfortable with the song and her range is not suitable for the song (as one of the judges said). I also noticed that after she slid her voice to hit the high note, she was sliding her voice all over the place during the chorus. I felt that made the song REALLY REALLY messy, and so, making it sound bad. In all fairness, she must have been really nervous, especially after missing the opening of her song. Additionally, i feel that she has the most potential to go on. I felt her voice was actually really good, and it did not have a chance to shine thru due to a bad song choice.
I had always thought that the Singapore Idol is someone whom we would be proud of, someone whom we wouldn’t mind representing our country on the international music scene. However, I do not see this when I look at Singapore Idol. I feel that, here in Singapore, the people with real talent are not desperate enough to actually take part in Singapore Idol. They know they are good, and do not need a petty popularity contest to confirm or reinforce their talent. I feel that this year’s batch of contestants are merely a bunch of hopefuls. I feel that most of them do not have any talent whatsoever, and do not belong so far along in this contest. I feel that this contest is really doing AB-SO-LU-TE-LY NOTHING for the music scene in Singapore. I feel that is actually pulling down the standard of singing in Singapore. Soon any tom, dick or harry can stand in the middle of Orchard Road, singing some rubbishy notes and be called a singer. I feel like just making a sign which says “PLEASE TO NOT CONTRIBUTE TO NOISE POLUTION IN SINGAPORE” and leaving it in the indoor stadium. Seriously, some people in the contest should be given a restraining order! I could almost feel my ear drums dying!
Anyways, I really hope that Singapore Idol starts giving the contestants REAL voice lessons which actually HELP the contestants. I feel that this season has really been the worst.

pitched tent, rained, mapreading lesson, rained
Day 2:
orienteering aroung klung town, rained, climbed a mountain under the rain, got soaked to the bone, shoe broke on the way up
Day 3 (it was friday the 13th):
1st day 2 have the sun up
went to do some pussy king or sumthing like dat, then did team building games: lightning hoops- form a circle n pass hoops through, Armpit juice- soak a sponge n use yur armpits to squeeze out the water, caterpiller- sit down n straddle the person infront of you, then go pick up bottles in the position, n human line- form the longest human line with everyting on yur body.
then did water activities- river crossing( cross this deep pond filled with God knows what- looked like sh*t n mud- with rope n other stuff) and canoeing. got burnt on this day

the great clash- war games (with water bombs filled with muddy and norm water)
Day 5:
break camp n go home!

THE use of animals in brand names is nothing new -think Tiger Beer,Tiger Balm and Lion Air. In Australia, there's a regional airline that's called Emu Airways.
The irony is that the emu is a flightless bird.
An airline named after an emu does not invoke much confidence, but what the heck, tigers can't fly either, but we have got Tiger Airways.
But what gets my hackles up is the degradation wrought upon these animals.
The lion is the king of beasts yet its name is used for a football team that crashed out even before the SEA Games in Vietnam started earlier this month.
If the animal kingdom had lawyers, there would be lawsuits and the owl,I guess, would preside. And if you think I'm making a mountain out of a molehill, imagine the repercussions if somebody called a football team of transvestites Merlions.
The Merlion is alleged to be a mythical figure, but we all know that it was conjured out of thin air.
It has been adopted by Singaporeans and has now grown to become quite close to our hearts. And we would definitely not take kindly to the abuse of the Merlion name by some gender-bender soccer group.
Worse still, if the Merlion transvestites can't play football to save their lives.
So let's not continue this humiliation of the proud lion any more.
Our football team doesn't roar in victory; most of the time it whimpers in defeat.
They can call themselves the Fiascos or Bunglers or Crashers for all I care, but leave the beasts alone.
I would even object if they were called Kittens because this would be another form of animal discrimination.
So what if Singapore is called the Lion City?
That doesn't give us the right to drag the name of the king of the forest through the mud. History has it that Sang Nila Utama saw a lion on this small island.
That's total crap. The chances of someone seeing a lion here is as remote as Neil Armstrong being hit by that cow that jumped over the moon.
So Sang Nila Utama must have been myopic and that is probably why Singaporeans lead the world in this field.
In fact, let's consider Myopia City as an alternative.
Also probably, no one in his entourage had the guts to tell the great leader that he mistook a goat for a lion.
Of course, his staff had a good laugh behind his back when they gathered at their favourite kopitiam after work.
But I am grateful for his short-sightedness, or we could today have been known as Kambingpura, or goat city. Now, this would get my goat.
This laughing-behind-the-back- of-the-boss thing is undoubtedly another trait that got passed down to modern Singaporeans.
Of course, this fixation with animal names affects only creatures that have a strong branding. Besides lions and those mentioned above, these include the deadly cobra,the awesome scorpion, the man-eating shark, the smart dolphins and even the desert-trotting camel.
Notice that mice, cockroaches or houseflies are not included.
The Registrar of Companies has restrictions on the use of names like Singapore, Temasek, Lion City as well as words that have religious and sexual connotations.
So just add animal names to the list and only allow their use if there is a very sound reason, such as if the tonic that wants to be known as Tiger Brand has 50 per cent or more of tiger's pee in it. Then at least our children's children won't be confused and think that a tiger is a beer or an airline or that a lion is some inept footballer who has more shame than mane.

How can overlook and oversee be opposites, while quite a lot and quite a few are alike? How can the weather be hot as hell one day and cold as hell another? Have you noticed that we talk about certain things only when they are absent? Have you ever seen a horseful carriage or a strapful gown? Or, met a sung hero or experienced requited love? Have you ever run into someone who was combobulated, gruntled, ruly or peccable? And where are all those people who ARE spring chickens or who would ACTUALLY hurt a fly?

You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language in which your house can burn up as it burns down, in which you fill in a form by filling it out and in which an alarm goes off by going on.

English was invented by people, not computers, and it reflects the creativity of the human race (which, of course, isn't a race at all). so in church 2dae; dan pek & hui ling taught
1st timers @ teaching
so they were quite nerverous
dan did most of the teaching
he asked like 10 questions about 1 point
but it was still fun...

ok... prefects camp...
tiring but amazingly... i actually enjoyed some parts...
we spent most of our time cheering...
so now... if i sound wierd... dun blame me...
but i'm considered quite good... some pple could barely talk when camp finished...

mi fingers are now like permernantly numb...
